Naloxone (Narcan)

Preventing Opioid Overdose Deaths

This training is designed to teach pharmacists how to prescribe and counsel patients on opioid overdose reversal kits containing naloxone. Pharmacists will also learn how to assemble the kits, and other skills to employ to prevent opioid overdose deaths in their communities. Once a pharmacist completes this training, the WSPA can assist you in connecting with a physician partner for a CDTA for take home naloxone. Objectives:

Review the key signs and steps of opioid overdose

Discuss the steps for opioid overdose reversal

Review patient education for opioid overdose reversal kits

Implement strategies to enhance patient safety with opioids dispensed in the pharmacy
