2015 OSHA Training – Bloodborne Pathogens
Published by Ohio Pharmacists Association and Washington State Pharmacy Association

Summary
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Bloodborne Pathogens standard was revised by the Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act of 2000 to include safer medical devices and an exposure control plan. Immunizing pharmacists and others exposed to blood must meet the requirements of this standard, including annual training, or they will risk facing huge fines. OPA is offering a webinar format for pharmacists to comply with this OSHA standard. The speaker will discuss potential blood borne hazards, safer practices designed to reduce/avoid needlestick and other sharps injuries, and effective post-exposure procedures. This program will provide the opportunity for interactive questions.

At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
  • Explain OSHA’s current requirements for safe sharps practices
  • Identify potential bloodborne hazards
  • Describe the features of a safer medical device
  • Identify the key elements of an Exposure Control Plan
  • List the steps of an effective post-exposure plan
  • Discuss record keeping requirements

If you administer immunizations and have not completed such a training within the last 12 months, now is your opportunity. To accommodate various work schedules this webinar will be offered:
  • Nov 13 (Fri) 7am & 12pm

This knowledge-based activity is targeted to pharmacists in all practice settings.

The Ohio Pharmacists Foundation will provide 1.0 contact hour (0.1 CEU) of continuing pharmacy education credit for pharmacists who complete the webinar and the evaluation. ACPE UAN 0129-0000-15-061-L04-P
