Sponsored by CardinalHealth Generation Rx Champions Award recognizes a pharmacist who has demonstrated excellence in community-based prescription drug abuse prevention. Liz Rankos, brings a wealth of intelligence, knowledge, energy, and commitment and is the general manager of her family’s pharmacy. She is skilled communicator and is committed to helping customers and the community. She is the third generation pharmacist to graduate from WSU and practice at Rankos’ Pharmacy. Liz was inspired by a pharmacist speaker while in pharmacy school in 2014. When she returned to Ranko’s Pharmacy she spearheaded their Opioid Overdose Reversal (Naloxone) program. Liz has taught workers the Tacoma Methadone (MAT) Program and the Tacoma Needle Exchange on the use of intranasal naloxone. She has attended and presented at a number of Opioid Addiction Awareness programs in Tacoma and the surrounding area. Liz provides a great example of pharmacist involvement in dealing with the community and public health. “Liz is an exceptional pharmacist and an asset to Tacoma. Her commitment to the needs of the community and to preventing death from overdose by making naloxone available upon request at Rankos Pharmacy is commendable. I’m glad she is part of the growing network of pharmacists and pharmacies providing Naloxone and helping combat the opioid epidemic in Washington,” states WSPA Secretary/Treasurer Steve Singer, RPh.
