Pharmacists will be required to have training in suicide prevention starting with their renewals after July 1st, 2017. Most pharmacists will need to take a one-time three hour training course. A pharmacist specific course is being developed in partnership between WSPA, Forefront, and UW and WSU Pharmacy Faculty. This group is developing an online course, as well as a live option for pharmacists. The course will need to be approved by the Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission prior to implementation. Pharmacists are recommended to wait to take their training until a course has been approved by PQAC, as Commission approval of a course is required.
