Let Washington State policymakers know why you support reforms
to Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) practices

Support HB 2296 and SB 6026 today!

Throughout this year’s short legislative session in Olympia, lawmakers will deliberate reforms to business practices that are sky rocketing your prescription drug prices in Washington State.

The entity behind these high costs?  Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs). While not much is known about these medicine middlemen, their shady business practices have increased drug costs and made doing business for local pharmacies difficult. These practices come in the form of clawback and gag order provisions.

Clawbacks enable a PBM to instruct a network pharmacy to collect an elevated copayment amount from a patient. PBM’s then recoup the surplus amount from the pharmacy. This reduces the amount collected by the pharmacy and skyrockets prescription costs – even for cheaper generic drugs. Even worse, gag orders prohibit pharmacists from disclosing these price discrepancies. In turn, they cannot offer cheaper prescriptions that are available to patients.

House Bill 2296  and Senate Bill 6026 looks to change this by removing these provisions.

The Washington State Pharmacy Association (WSPA) urges you to let Olympia policymakers know why we need reforms to PBM practices by contacting your legislators today!
