DOH Approves WSPA and Forefront’s Suicide Prevention Training for Pharmacy Professionals


The Washington State Department of Health has approved WSPA and Forefront’s Suicide Awareness and Prevention Training for Pharmacy Professionals. This three-hour training, developed by pharmacists and suicide experts from Forefront Suicide Prevention, explains suicide statistics and stigma, and provides tangible steps to prevent suicides. It is ACPE accredited. All Washington State-licensed pharmacists are required to take a DOH approved, three-hour minimum Suicide Prevention Course prior to their 2018 renewal date. This program is a collaboration between WSPA and Forefront Suicide Prevention. It’s available to all pharmacy professionals, regardless of their WSPA membership. 

Online training

Our comprehensive online training is ACPE approved for 3 hours. Go to the WSPA education portal to access the CE https://wspa.wcea.education/login?

  • If you have not logged in before, create an account.

Once you have logged in search for “Suicide Awareness and Referral for Pharmacy Professionals.” The CE is $90, WSPA members (click here for the code) receive a 50% discount on all Education Portal training ($45).

 The Washington State Pharmacy Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. 

At the completion of this activity, the pharmacist and technician will be able to:

•             Recognize suicide’s impact in communities

•             Describe pharmacy professional’s role in suicide prevention

•             Education all patients to make home safer

•             Prevent suicide professionally and personally using the LEARN steps

Live trainings

These courses will be offered all over Washington in partnership with state associations, health systems, schools and pharmacies. This course is excellent in person, with opportunities to practice interventions and discuss this important topic with trainers and peers. Pricing is $75 for WSPA members and $125 for non-members.
