Helping Patients with Behavior Change: Keep Calm and MI!

Faculty: Jennifer L. Bacci, PharmD, MPH, BCACP

At the completion of this activity, the pharmacist and technician will be able to:

  1. Describe motivational interviewing principles and tools and their application in patient care.
  2. Summarize communication approaches that support behavioral change at various stages of change.
  3. Analyze strengths and weaknesses of a health behavior change intervention according to MI principles.

Dr. Bacci is an Assistant Professor at the University of Washington School of Pharmacy.  Dr. Bacci completed her PharmD followed by a PGY-1 community residency and a two-year Community Pharmacy Research Fellowship and Master in Public Health all at the University of Pittsburgh. Her focus is in the application of implementation science to evaluate and advance the adoption and reach of innovative patient care models in community pharmacy. She also co-course masters a two-course series for first year students in the University of Washington PharmD curriculum focused on professional identity formation, leadership, and the Pharmacist’s Patient Care Process.


To Register for the Webinar:

It is $10 for WSPA members and $35 for non-WSPA members. Students can register for free. Once you register and pay for the CE you will receive a link to register for the webinar. After registering for the webinar, you will receive a confirmation email containing information for joining the webinar on April 10th.


To Earn CE Credit

You are required to attend the full presentation and complete a post-activity evaluation form to receive credit. The evaluation form will be included as an attachment in the webinar. If you have problems accessing the evaluation please contact Maria Lieggi at at the Washington State Pharmacy Association (WSPA). After the evaluation form is completed, you must return it by April 17th to Maria Lieggi to have your CE uploaded.


WSPA will upload the CE credit to the CPE Monitor and will send an email once the CE has been uploaded so that attendees can check their CPE Monitor in order to verify the status of their credit. WSPA only has 60 days to upload the CE from the initial date of the training, after the 60-day deadline, the CE cannot be uploaded to the CPE Monitor.


The Washington State Pharmacy Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a Provider of continuing pharmacy education.
