WSPA Immunization Training: For Pharmacist and Technicians 8-4-20

This activity is designed specifically to train pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy students to participate in an Immunization training for adults and adolescents. The content derived from the CDC program "Epidemiology & Prevention of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases" are adapted to Washington State specific pharmacy law and practice.

Part 1 – Didactic Training: For Technician (This should be completed before Part 2- the practicum training)
Vaccine Principles for Pharmacy Technicians
P articipants will complete 3 trainings on-line; Understanding the Basics: General Best Practice Guidelines on Immunization, Vaccine Administration and Vaccine Storage and Handling. They will take an exam at the end of each training and must have a minimum score of 70% correct responses in order to receive credit. Technicians will receive credit for a total of 3.5 CPE after successfully completing this part. The CE will upload to the CPE Monitor within 2-4 days after successfully completing this activity.


Part 1 – Didactic Training: For Pharmacist (This does not need to be completed before Part 2- the practicum training)
Epidemiology and Prevention of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases

Participants will watch 14 videos; CDC Epidemiology and Prevention of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases Didactic and Pink Book. The Pink Book contains updated, comprehensive information on each vaccine-preventable disease, as well as the latest information on principles of vaccination, general recommendations on immunization, immunization strategies for healthcare practices and providers and vaccine safety.


Participants will view the videos on-line and take an exam at the end. A minimum score of 70% correct responses must be received in order to receive credit. Pharmacists will receive credit for a total of 14 hours CPE after successfully completing this part. The CE will upload to the CPE Monitor within 2-4 days after successfully completing this activity.

 

Part 2 – Practicum Training: Vaccinating Adults & Adolescents: Immunization Practice Session For Pharmacist and Technicians

This Special Offering Practicum Session has 3 parts and must be completed in this order:

Session 1: Watch the video, take a quiz and pass with a minimum of 70%. This must be completed before the webinar on August 4th

Session 2: Attend the live webinar- this will be Q&A from the video that you watched and some case studies.

Session 3: Submit a practice injection attestation form. This can be singed off by a pharmacist who routinely immunizes. If you do not have any one to sign off on this, we will schedule a time with WSPA staff. This must be completed within 30 days of the webinar.


Part 3 – CPR (No CE, external- on your own)

In order to receive an immunization certificate, you must have a current adult CPR card. CPR training is not included in this program. If your CPR card is not up-to-date, please complete CPR training and provide proof of CPR certification to the WSPA. Resources for CPR Training

WSPA Immunization Training of Completion:
In order to receive your Immunization training certificate, you must successfully complete all three parts of the immunization training within one year of the practicum date. The steps do not need to be completed in succession. A Certificate of Completion will be mailed to you upon successful completion of the program in its entirety.


The Washington State Pharmacy Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.
