After more than 3 years of work with stakeholders, the new modernized pharmacy rules are going into effect in July 2020. This updated set of rules is intended to improve regulation of current and future practice.

As stated by the Chair of the Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission (PQAC), "One foundational element of this work was to try to anticipate what health care would look like in the next 20 years, with the goal that our rules would remain contemporary over that time. We focused on moving away from prescriptive rules that spelled out in detail how each action should be taken to professional practice standards or standards of care model, where there would be reliance on licensees to work within their scope of practice, and to adhere to best practices to perform activities."

We will be working closely with PQAC leadership to address questions and concerns as these new rules are implemented and enforced. If you have comments, please contact Jeff Rochon or Dedi Little.
