WSPA Releases CEO Selection Timeline and Process

Position: Chief Executive Officer
 
Position Description
The Washington State Pharmacy Association (WSPA) exists to advocate on behalf of its members to ensure pharmacy professionals are engaged and valued as essential to the healthcare team to optimize patient outcomes. Reporting to the Board of Directors, responsibilities of the WSPA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Include but are not limited to:

 

Association Leadership & Management
● Provide leadership and management to the day-to-day affairs of the Association in accordance with Bylaws, Governing Policies and an employment agreement as executed by the Board of Directors
● Develop, communicate and implement an annual organizational work plan in support of the strategic plan,
services and fiscal outcomes
● Maintains a financially viable organization while adhering to all financial policies and directives in accordance with WSPA policies and bylaws
● Oversee fulfillment of external contracts and appointments, e.g. Washington State Department of
Health/Washington Recovery Assistance Program for Pharmacy (WRAPP) , Executive Secretary to the Washington State Pharmacy Foundation
 
Membership and Growth
● Ensures that WSPA programs and services promote, upgrade and safeguard the common professional interests of the members and growth of the Association
● Effectively manages strategic relationships between WSPA and external stakeholder groups, including affiliate relationships and state delegates with national pharmacy organizations
 
Collaboration and Advocacy
● Uphold our values and represent the organization in positive and professional manner
● Foster strong relationships with staff, Board of Directors, members, partners and adjacent organizations
● Sustain and grow strategic relationships, partnerships and networks that facilitate collaboration across the
healthcare continuum, involving a diverse group of stakeholders
● Understand, promote and represent the needs of the profession and of WSPA membership to guide healthcare policy
● Maintain relationships with state Schools of Pharmacy and technician training programs

● Positive, motivating, inclusive leader
● Strategic, forward thinking capabilities
● Ability to articulate vision for future of pharmacy and connection to WSPA strategic goals
● Effective, respectful management of personnel
● Effective communicator and public speaker
 
Other
● Visible presence in the current WSPA Office located in Renton, Washington. Relocation expenses are not
covered
● Flexibility to work weekends and evenings in support of association and member events as needed
● Travel is required throughout the state of Washington and to several national meetings annually. This varies and may be extensive based on association and member needs
 
Education & Work Experience:
 
Required
● Licensed pharmacist in the state of Washington
o Note: Non-pharmacy candidates with related degrees, such as public policy or health administration
may be considered with commensurate experience
● Knowledge of state and federal laws affecting the delivery of healthcare and pertinence to pharmacy
● Supervisory or management experience
 
Preferred
● Minimum of five years of professional pharmacy experience is preferred
● Association management or pharmacy leadership experience preferred
● Desire and experience to mentor staff, students, residents and fellows
● Experience and an understanding of the legislative and regulatory process
● Demonstrated grant process and funding experience
● Familiarity with Carver Model of Policy Governance
 
Position Type
Full-time, salaried
 
Compensation
Compensation package will be negotiated with the selected candidate.
 
Selection Committee Timeline
• Applications accepted starting October 2, 2020
• Interviews will be conducted virtually starting October 12, 2020
• Onboarding to begin November 2020 (preferable)

In addition, please request letters of recommendation from three individuals be emailed to the Selection Committee c/o Megan McIntyre, WSPA President megan.mcintyre@virginiamason.org, as part of your application.
